Currently time and resources have been pulled away to work on Tap To Flap 1.2 and get that done as soon as possible. This has slowed the development of Long Eared Apocalypse, but not set back the winter 2011 deadline for the first beta.<br />

So far I have been concentrating on the game engine and getting it to perfectly render the 3D elements of the game. The workflow looks something like this when building the prototype game engine: build engine, run engine, debug engine, improve engine, rebuild engine. Have hit some huge roadblocks slowing initial progress, but the prototype 3D game engine is certainly coming along.<br />

Hopefully the prototype game engine will be up and running by the end of Feb with some small 3D animations. Will provide screenshots when that time comes. Afterwards? I will concentrate on building the final game engine that will run this brilliant game.<br />

Nor will the final name for the game (which has been chosen). These two key pieces of information will be held back until further into the development of the game where a proper press release will be published.<br />

Don't worry though, other details about the game will be released as they are decided upon as well as updates on the game's development progress. On that note: as the main character design has been finished work on the game engine will resume.<br />

Today is also a special day, the Mac App Store was opened today. I have been considering the possibility of developing Long Eared Apocalypse for the Mac App Store. It will come. But be very, very patient. If the game takes off on the iOS app store then development will start on a Mac version, perhaps even Windows version as well... Lets not get ahead of ourselves quite yet. The Long Eared Apocalypse game engine is under way and although there is still a very long way to go, things are moving along nicely. Basic 3D test models and lights are working, more work to do on texturing.<br />
<br />
Currently I am developing the main character and hero for the game: White. After playing with the idea of a bunny hero the decision was made to make him human... well almost human. White will be a small boy lost and fighting for a cure in this epic adventure. What sets him apart from other children are his ears and huge imagination. Long Eared Apocalypse will be his tale. Concept artwork for White is underway and will be released, along with the games final name, once the basic game is almost complete. White's final form and the games name will be a part of a great unveiling around about the time of the first beta.<br />
<br />
Still no release date, or even rough estimation for the games completion, however I plan to have the first beta (for which anyone will be able to apply to take part in) ready by this time next year.<br />

It is now time for you to learn more about the game and its mechanics<br />
<br />
<b>Game Style</b><br />
Long Eared Apocalypse will be a full third person free roaming 3D adventure game. Except this will not be an ordinary adventure game, this game stars a bunny rabbit known as White who lives in a world suddenly over run by zombie rabbits. White is searching for a cure.<br />
<br />
<b>Fighting</b><br />
Don't turn away just yet, this will not be just another zombie game; this is a zombie game with rabbits! If that is not enough, Long Eared Apocalypse is designed specifically for the iPhone and iPad and will feature revolutionary touch controls. To fight off the horde you will have an array of strange weapons at your disposal for melee and ranged attacks. These attacks can be executed using special gestures. Use the unique zombie-rabbit defeating skills to fight and journey through the burrows, the overground fields and the deserted human buildings all in search of a cure for a virus of the fluffy kind.<br />
<br />
<b>Game Mechanics</b><br />
The game will revolve around exploration and of course the excellent, adaptive fighting. Players will be able to throw items (such as sticks, javelins and of course carrots) with a tap and swipe across an enemy zombie to make White follow the players finger with the edge of a sword or stick. With such power and control at the tip of your fingers there is no need anymore for clunky interfaces or physical buttons. Long Eared Apocalypse is taking game design and moving forwards. The importance of experimenting with different swipes, moves and combinations of melee and ranged attacks will grow as the player comes across new enemies and gigantic bosses. (Yes, bigger than huge, 4x larger than screen huge)<br />
<br />
<b>Levels</b><br />
Players will be able to journey through full 3D levels, exploring them, finding items and most importantly fighting off the hordes. The game will be made up of many large levels linked with cutscenes. Weapons and ammo can be found and picked up along the way.<br />
<br />
<b>Physics (The Fun Kind)</b><br />
I will be creating a custom physics engine for the game known as physics box. This engine will enable players to send enemy zombies flying with the flick of their finger. The physics engine is important as it will be doing the calculations necessary to send the zombies flying when White whacks them with an extra long carrot or a branch that the player picked up along the way.<br />

<b>And Finally...</b><br />
This is not the end. There are so many other exciting things to tell you about, but they must wait; for now at least. The teaser information above will soon be joined by more concept art and 3D concept models. Physics Engine and 3D Game Engine work will start soon and as they progress I will keep you updated. I know you are eager to see what the game will look like, the concept models will hopefully give you all a feel for the game and its style; the concept models are not too far away. Finally, eventually the true name for the game will be revealed, until then stay on this blog for all the updates on Long Eared Apocalypse.<br />
